Since the first platform cooperativism event at The New School two years ago, an ecosystem of people, knowledge, and tools has developed around this model. Now, some platform co-ops reverse-engineer the technologies of the “sharing economy” to create worker-owned rivals to Palo Alto’s most dominant tech firms. Others are developing enterprises of a kind the tech billionaires in California have not even considered. Don’t miss this exciting, two-day conference!

The lecturer, Elizabeth Kolbert, is a staff writer for the New Yorker. Her most recent book, The Sixth Extinction, received the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction in 2015. She is also the author of Field Notes from a Catastrophe: Man, Nature, and Climate Change, and edited The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2009.

Join us for an evening of celebration with Carl Anthony discussing his new book, The Earth, The City, and the Hidden Narrative of Race. Carl Anthony’s forthcoming book interweaves urban history, racial justice, and cosmology with personal experiences as an architect/planner, environmentalist, and black American. Carl will be joined by Dr. Paloma Pavel, co-founder of Breakthrough Communities, and Michelle DePass, Dean of the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy and Director of the Tishman Environment and Design Center.
