THE GRAMMYs:

Anthony LaMarca, BFA Jazz and Contemporary Music ’09, Guitarist for The War on Drugs | Best Rock Album for “A Deeper Understanding

Jazzmeia Horn, BFA Jazz and Contemporary Music ’14, whose debut album, “A Social Call,” was nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Album

Marcus Baylor, BFA Jazz and Contemporary Music ’99, whose debut album, The Baylor Project, “The Journey,” was nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Album and whose performance of The Baylor Project, “Laugh And Move On” was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance.

Irene Sankoff, MFA Acting ’02, whose “Come From Away” was nominated for Best Musical Theater Album.

ALSO:

Francesca Dardani, BM Performance ’10, Viola, performed “Praying” with Kesha at the Grammys, an emotional act of bravery in the midst of the #MeToo movement.

Rachel Sigman, BM Performance ’12, sang on Houston Symphony’s recording of Wozzeck, which won Best Opera Recording.

THE OSCARS:

Sufjan Stevens, MFA Creative Writing ’00, who was nominated for Best Original Song for his “Mystery of Love,” written for the film Call Me By Your Name.

Ru Kuwahata, BFA Illustration ’05, whose film Negative Space was nominated for Best Short Film (Animated).

Sundance Film Festival:

Daniel Kitrosser, MFA Playwriting ’14, who received the NEXT Innovator Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, along with his fellow screenwriter and director Jeremiah Zagar, for their film We The Animals.

Daniel Pearle, MFA Playwriting ’12, adapted his own play, A Kid Like Jake—which premiered in the School of Drama New Voices Festival in 2012—for the screen. It premiered at Sundance this year, starring Claire Danes and Jim Parsons.
